ANNUAL EVENTS

Annual Events are the backbone of our section.  Not only do they provide a way for members to meet, they also provide a great way for the public to determine who we are and what we do.

Annual Ice Climbing Opener

January 13th, 2018@  9:00 a.m. (approximately)

All members welcome.

Trip Coordinator:  Mark Zieber

Getting up your first ice climb can be very intimidating, made even more challenging by the chore of finding a willing partner.  For over a decade, local climbers have congregated early winter, braving unpredictable chinooks, to drop top ropes and enjoy BBQ burgers.  This year we will be having the ice opener at Jensen's Reservoir due to the Waterton Fires this summer.  Jensen's has long been known as a great location for beginners or those wanting to warm up for the ice season.

-open to Alpine club members.

-Great event to try ice climbing for the first time or just come watch and visit with other members.

-What to bring:

  • hard sole hiking boots, ski boots or climbing boots.
  • Helmet (if you have one)
  • Harness (if you have one)
  • Warm clothing
  • Ice tools/axes (if you have them)
  • Extra Ice tools, harnesses, and helmets will be available if needed.

-$2 for BBQ burger costs.  Beef and vegie burgers will be provided.
