SAACC APRIL 2023 NEWSLETTER

Greetings, fellow adventurers and mountain enthusiasts! It's been five long years since the last edition of our beloved Alpine Club newsletter graced your mailboxes (or inboxes, as the case may be). We apologize for the delay, but rest assured, we've been hard at work honing our climbing skills, exploring new peaks, and finding new ways to embarrass ourselves on the mountainside. In fact, some might say we've been so busy having fun that we forgot about the newsletter entirely. But fear not, we're back and better than ever! So strap on your crampons, grab your ice axes, and get ready for a wild ride with the Southern Alberta Alpine Club.

UPCOMING EVENTS FOR APRIL

  • Ice climbing and drytooling: The Ultimate Workout for Mind, Body, and Soul

If you're looking for a new way to challenge yourself both physically and mentally, look no further than ice climbing and drytooling. These exhilarating sports are not only a great way to get in shape, but they also offer a host of other benefits that will improve your overall well-being.

First and foremost, ice climbing and drytooling are a fantastic workout. These sports require a combination of strength, endurance, and balance, which means you'll be working out your entire body. And let's be real, there's nothing quite like the feeling of climbing a sheer wall of ice and conquering it.

But the benefits of these sports go beyond just physical fitness. They also offer a host of mental and emotional benefits. For one, climbing is a great way to clear your mind and escape from the stresses of everyday life. The focus and concentration required to climb also helps to improve cognitive function. And let's not forget the feeling of accomplishment and self-confidence that comes with reaching the top of a climb.

Another great aspect of ice climbing and drytooling is the sense of community that comes with it. Whether it's the camaraderie of climbing with a partner or the shared sense of accomplishment in a climbing gym, the sport brings people together in a way that is truly unique. And let's be real, who doesn't love a good post-climbing beer with friends?

But perhaps the greatest benefit of ice climbing and drytooling is the way it improves your overall lifestyle. It's not just about getting in shape; it's about making an investment in your health and well-being. And let's face it, when you're feeling strong and confident, everything else in life seems a little bit easier.

If you're ready to take the plunge and try ice climbing and drytooling for yourself, here are a few things to keep in mind:

Invest in the right gear, such as crampons, ice axes, and a helmet.

Be prepared to work hard and push yourself, but also listen to your body and take rest days as needed.

And most importantly, remember to have fun!

So what are you waiting for? It's time to grab some axes and crampons and conquer some ice.

Your mind, body, and soul will thank you.

  • Joining an Alpine Club: Summit-ting New Heights of Fun and Friendship!

Are you tired of endlessly scrolling through your social media feed, feeling like you're missing out on all the outdoor adventures that everyone else seems to be having? Well, fear not, my friend! Joining an alpine club might be just the solution you need to add some excitement to your life and social media feed.

First off, you'll meet some of the most interesting people you've ever encountered. Who knows, maybe you'll even find your new best friend or partner in crime. And let's be honest, having someone to share the joys (and pains) of hiking, climbing, or skiing with is a priceless experience.

But the benefits don't stop there. You'll also get the chance to explore some of the most stunning natural landscapes that your region has to offer, without worrying about getting lost or being unprepared. Plus, with experienced trip leaders and safety protocols in place, you can rest assured that you're in good hands.

And let's not forget about the health benefits. Hiking, climbing, and skiing are all fantastic ways to stay in shape and improve your physical and mental well-being. Plus, you'll get that oh-so-coveted Vitamin D from being out in the sun (with proper sun protection, of course).

But wait, there's more! As a member of an alpine club, you'll also have access to a variety of exclusive events and perks, from social gatherings to discounts on gear and equipment. And if you're feeling particularly adventurous, you can even volunteer to become a trip leader or board member, taking on new challenges and gaining valuable leadership skills.

So what are you waiting for? Joining an alpine club might just be the best decision you'll ever make. And who knows, maybe you'll even become the next legendary mountaineer, inspiring future generations with your epic stories (and Instagram posts).Description text goes here
